Caramuru (1933 - 2004)
Caramuru, the master of sand painting ! In 1969 when he went on a holiday under the Serra Dourada mountain, he saw 2 women taking coloured sand from the ground. He fell in love with the beauty which nature offers to humanity. "I am always surprised with the different colors that nature creates. I already have taken more or less 360 different colors from the ground. It's fantastic !" During the past 31 years, Caramuru went to Serra Dourada, Pirenopolis and many other places to collect sand. He had almost 5 thousand kilos stored in his atelier. Caramuru painted using oil too, but his passion was the sand. He was a Guru to the people, willing to pass on his knowledge to anyone who asked. But now, after his death, his son Fausto Brandao is carrying on the work , having already collaborated for many years with Caramuru. He will now continue the journey, bringing to us that most beautiful thing which God has to offer: "The Art !"
